Contamination of marine sediments represents a critical health threat for coastal ecosystem. Harbor areas in particular have been found to contain high levels of contaminants in bottom sediments due to waste s from urban, industrial, and riverine sources, as well as navigation.
Lhoist is also involved in removing these toxic pollutants in harbors and navigable waterways. Lhoist engineers work on these technologies for clean-up and remediation plans.
