Home > Sludge treatment > Stabilization

Stabilization is a chemical or biological process that stops the natural fermentation of the sludge. Chemical stabilization is almost always performed with lime.

Thus lime stabilization is the process where the sludge is mixed with lime to raise the pH to greater than 12. The high pH and a rise in temperature reduces pathogens (hygienization effect) and reduces offensive odors (via stopping the fermentation).

As far as liquid sludges are concerned, lime stabilization is usually used if there is a real fermentation problem, or if the liquid sludge is directly spread on farm lands, as well as to adjust the pH.

Neutralac® solution

Neutralac® offers you lime-based reagents which will reduce bad odors and allow sludge spreading on agricultural lands :

Quicklime - Neutralac® Q

Hydrated lime - Neutralac® H

Liquid product - Neutralac® SL
